Provence France

Provence France, Marseille

Provence, France, Susan Mulvihill

I know you’re used to seeing my regular, weekly garden videos, right? But in addition to that, I’ve got an extra treat for you this week. I’ve created a video slideshow of many photos I took while we were on our trip to Provence, France.

A lot of the photos are garden-related, such as container gardens or pretty landscaping. And many are of them are of the beautiful places Bill and I visited. Everywhere was so beautiful!

Our itinerary:

  • We flew from Spokane to Minneapolis, to Amsterdam, and finally landed in Marseille, France. Yes, that was a VERY long day!
  • Bill and I spent 5 days in Marseille, taking in the sights and sounds of this huge, historic city. One of our goals was to recover from our jetlag well before getting into the “big” part of our trip!
  • Then we headed north to Aix-en-Provence which is one of the most beautiful cities we’ve ever visited. It’s quite a clean city, with tree-lined boulevards and fountains in city squares. And I was so impressed with their amazing farmer’s markets! You can probably guess that I wanted to buy everything, right?
  • At that point, we transferred to the starting location of our 8-day Viking River Cruise. The cruise was wonderful and ended in Lyon.
  • We immediately headed to the airport for our return flights home.

Why Viking?

This was our third Viking River Cruise, although the previous two took place 12-14 years ago. Those were cruises on the Rhine River and the Danube, respectively. About a year ago, we received a brochure of their river cruises. As we looked through it, we decided the Lyon & Provence cruise would be a great choice. And it was!

I like how there’s less than 200 passengers on each boat so it’s much more intimate than an ocean cruise. The service and food were wonderful and it’s a nice, relaxing way to explore a new region of the world. And we made some new friends!

One last thing

At the beginning of the video, I mentioned how I was standing our “small patch” of lavender. When you look at it, you’ll probably say “small?!!!” But when you look at the photos of us standing in a REAL field of lavender, you’ll know what I meant!

Well, I won’t keep you waiting any longer! Here’s my video:
