Wow, it’s time for my next video already! I focused on vegetable varieties in last week’s video so now it’s time to talk about annual flowers. Annuals grow, bloom, set seed and die in a single growing season.
My husband Bill and I live in Spokane, Washington. The hardiness zone here ranges from 5b to 6a but we have a really nice growing season.
I’m crazy about growing all sorts of flowers! In the past several years, I’ve really branched out in my selections because it’s always fun to try new things.
Why Grow Annual Flowers?
- There are so many wonderful varieties these days. It’s fun to add them to your garden.
- They provide lots of color and beauty in our landscape.
- You can even bring some cut flowers indoors to enjoy.
- Flowers attract pollinators, which also benefits your vegetable plants that require pollination in order to produce. Examples of these include summer and winter squash, pumpkins, and cucumbers.
- It’s economical to grow annual flowers from seed.
- You can grow varieties that aren’t available in your local garden centers and nurseries.
In this video, you’ll notice some that I’ve grown in past years because I love them so much. You’ll also see annuals that are new to me, and that you might not be familiar with either. I hope this will inspire you to try new things this year!
