If you’re new to my videos, or curious about our vegetable garden, this week’s video is especially for you! In it, I share our vegetable garden layout and plans for the 2026 growing season.
This is always such an exciting time of year, as we prepare our garden.
What’s in this video?
- You’ll discover our progression of types of raised beds
- I report on our frustrations with the struggling southside raised beds. This is courtesy of some spruce trees (sigh).
- How we progressed from using soaker hoses to drip irrigation
- Our 3-bin compost set-up
- I’ll show you the main structures in our garden, which include a small greenhouse and hoop house
- You’ll see the plant supports we’re using for growing tomatoes, pole beans, winter squash, pumpkins and cucumbers. (note: I have a detailed video about this so look for the link to it lower in this post)
- I touch briefly on Bill’s and my philosophy on gardening organically
- I show the method I use for choosing where crops will go each year
- You’ll hear about soil nutrition as it relates to providing crops with the correct type of nutrients
- And last but not least, I share my credentials. After all, you might be wondering why I think I have helping gardening information to share! (spoiler alert: it’s my passion!)
Why did I choose the topic of our vegetable garden layout?
Vegetable gardening is my passion! Yes, I do love growing flowers, shrubs and berries, but the majority of my videos are about growing veggies. My goal was to introduce you to our garden so you could see how it’s structured. This video is definitely just an overview (not super detailed) but really sets the stage for what’s to come.
As I explained, my videos come out every Thursday on my YouTube channel. And in addition to being available there, I always profile the videos on my website, usually with additional information.
During the video, I mentioned some past videos on topics you might be particularly interested in. Here they are (these link to the videos on my YouTube channel):
I’m really looking forward to diving into actual gardening activities in the coming weeks and months!
