For this week’s video, I will be answering your gardening questions. But that wasn’t originally the plan! I fully expected to be out in the garden, planting my broccoli seedlings and sharing a ton of tips. Apparently Mother Nature had other plans!
After hearing about the high winds, rain, snow and below-freezing temperatures coming our way, I needed a “Plan B.” After all, I’ve been babying my little broccoli plants and didn’t want to subject them to those conditions. I created posts for my Facebook and Instagram feeds, asking folks to subject their gardening questions. I’m happy to report that you all came through for me!
Here are the questions that I answered during my video:
- When and what do you plant in your hoop house for summer & winter?
- I make my own compost and add it to my beds every year. This year I planted tomato seedlings and within hours they were covered with pill bugs. What is the solution?
- Are there any real solutions to prevent and/or control powdery mildew on squash?
- Which seeds are you direct-sowing in the garden this year, rather than starting them indoors?
- How do you know when it’s time to pot-up seedlings?
- How do you know when you can move tomato and pepper seedlings from indoors under lights to the greenhouse?
- Is it really not worth starting squash, pumpkins, cucumbers etc. indoors as opposed to direct sowing?
- Can she can grow garlic in the same bed for 2 growing seasons?
- What has been the most surprising thing you have grown and what can’t you grow that you wish you could?
- What’s the one vegetable that you just cannot believe people do not grow more of, based on how so incredibly easy it is to get it to produce for you, and how it tastes WAY better than store bought?
I think you’ll agree those are pretty interesting and diverse gardening questions! But I have to admit I *love* helping gardeners solve problems and learn about all aspects of gardening.
I hope you’ll enjoy this video and pick up some new information for your own garden:
