CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts—The Royal Sonesta Boston announced the completion of a comprehensive property renovation, elevating its guest experience with a complete refresh of guestrooms and suites in the hotel’s East Tower, upgrades to the property’s fitness center and poolscape, and the introduction of a new dining destination, Scull & Keel.

“We are thrilled to unveil this transformative new chapter for The Royal Sonesta Boston,” said Mark Jeffery, general manager of The Royal Sonesta Boston. “Every aspect of this renovation was guided by our commitment to creating exceptional experiences for today’s travelers. As one of the region’s most iconic waterfront hotels, we look forward to welcoming guests to discover our refreshed spaces and experience a new standard of hospitality along the Charles River.”

Located minutes from some of Greater Boston’s most popular attractions, including TD Garden, MIT, Kendall Square, the Museum of Science, and the New England Aquarium, The Royal Sonesta Boston serves as a home base for both business and leisure travelers. The property offers 400 guestrooms and suites with views of the Boston skyline and Charles River, alongside amenities including complimentary WiFi, dining options, a fitness center, and an indoor saltwater pool and seasonal sundeck.

Reimagined East Tower Guestrooms and Suites

The Royal Sonesta Boston’s East Tower has undergone a complete transformation, introducing a new design concept. The newly refreshed East Tower accommodations include modern hues, tailored detailing, light wood tones, matte finishes, clean lines, and layered textures. Interpretations of the Charles River, architectural details, and images of the area’s legacy of scientific advancement create a visual narrative that connects guests to the neighborhood.

Enhanced Wellness Amenities

As part of the transformation, guests have access to upgraded wellness experiences. The hotel’s 30-by-45-foot indoor saltwater pool includes a glass-enclosed roof and adjacent seasonal terrace.

The property’s 24-hour fitness center has also been refreshed with modern cardio and strength-training equipment, including a Peloton bike, as well as complete locker room facilities.

Introducing Scull & Keel

The renovation also included the debut of Scull & Keel, a new restaurant concept situated along the riverfront, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. Inspired by Boston’s maritime heritage, Scull & Keel offers an interpretation of New England seafood in an upscale-casual setting.

Focused on fresh, locally sourced seafood and seasonal ingredients, the menu celebrates the flavors of the region. Signature dishes include the restaurant’s hot and cold seafood towers, tuna tartare nachos, day boat scallops, and a fried hake sandwich battered in Scull Run, the hotel’s signature IPA, created in partnership with Lamplighter Brewing Co. Handcrafted cocktails include the Stormflower, a passionfruit tequila cocktail; the Lavender Coastline, a lavender infused vodka drink; and the Copper Current, a blend of whisky, apple spice, and ginger.

Scull & Keel joins The Royal Sonesta Boston’s culinary portfolio, which also includes Monteverdi, serving handcrafted Italian cuisine, and Studio Café, offering Starbucks coffee and baked goods made fresh daily onsite.
